History of Vestesta

So, how did Vestesta start?

While I did mention in the “about” section that Vestesta started in June 2023, that’s not the complete story. Truth be told, Vestesta, as it is now, came into existence in the summer of 2023. But the seeds of both the company and its name were sown around February 2023, so it’s a bit older than it seems.

The Story Behind ‘Vestesta’

Ever since my teenage years, I’ve been drawn to old/ancient Catholic/Crusader chants or just Latin music in that type of genre, like “Media Vita” or “O Fortuna” (not really old, but still in Latin), and my favorite artist, I’d say, is “Farya Faraji” (you can find him on YouTube). (for those interested) Faraji’s repertoire is incredibly diverse, featuring songs from not just old Europe but also from Asia, America, and other parts of the world. This love for Latin nudged me to start learning the language via Duolingo. It’s not the ideal language learning platform, I admit, but it’s something. The funny part? I began this venture about two weeks before my math exams. Yep, diving into a time-consuming activity right before exams – smart, right? Needless to say, my exam results weren’t stellar. But then, Latin’s intrigue beats repetitive math problems any day, at least for me, and that comes from someone that do like maths.

Though I didn’t stick with Duolingo for long after that, I kept up with some videos on Latin history and grammar. This was around early 2023, when I switched jobs – from one mind-numbing role to a slightly less so. My aspiration to be my own boss grew day by day. In my quest for a low-cost business model, I eventually set up an Etsy shop. I initially settled on the name ‘Vestes’ – Latin for clothing – which was perfect for my product line of T-shirts, socks, and the like. But, as luck would have it, the name was already taken. Determined to have a Latin name and quite fond of ‘Vestes’, I played around with some additions until I landed on what you now know as ‘Vestesta’.

A Bumpy Etsy Road

My stint on Etsy didn’t last long due to an unfair suspension. It’s like claiming innocence while in jail, but I truly didn’t do anything wrong. There wasn’t even a notification explaining the suspension. Considering the random bans happening on Etsy, well at least people on reddit and the likes claiming to be, I’m confident in my innocence 🙂

I reached out to Etsy for reinstatement, which they granted after three weeks. This break, though, hit my morale hard. I did nothing in those three weeks – a regrettable lapse, as I should’ve been prepping products for my return. Lesson learned, I suppose.

Back in Action with Vestesta

I resumed Vestesta-related activities only in June this year, and I’m happy with the progress. I’m constantly learning – better design techniques, website management, you name it. The support I’ve received so far is incredible, and I’m hopeful for more in the future. There were times I doubted the venture, wondered if I was wasting time or needed a new direction. But the joy I find in this work, and the encouragement from every supportive individual, affirms my path. Now, I’m all geared up to delve into more fantasy and dark-fantasy art. Stay tuned for what’s coming!
